Class of 1979 Donates Technology

Saint Patricia School’s use of technology in the classroom is growing thanks to the generous donation of an I-Pad and a Bowers & Wilkins speaker system donated by the Alumni from the class of 1979.  During our annual Oktoberfest, the former classmates celebrated a reunion with an opportunity to visit their old classrooms and swap stories, and fondly reminisce about being kids at St Pat’s.  Inspired by these memories, the alumni chose to help change the school’s learning landscape and put limitless possibilities at a child’s fingertips.

The class of ’79’s contribution impacts learning for all grade levels because the I-Pad 2 offers attention-grabbing apps that make the school day more engaging, interactive and fun.  St. Patricia’s teachers are enthusiastic about being hands-on with current technology by selecting different apps tailored for their individual student needs and interests.

While playing Home Run, an I-Pad 2 math game, fifth grader Antioinette Wingo commented, “This helps me with math because it encourages me to keep going and do more.”  With the cheers from the crowd and baseball graphics, Antoinette felt just like she was at the ball game.

All ages enjoy exciting graphics, sounds and music that the applications offer.  Now Saint Patricia’s students have the opportunity to explore a variety of apps as they discover more about how the world works with an educational tool that truly expands the learning experience!

Parents,

We are glad you have made the choice of St. Patricia School, and we are happy you are part of our school faith community.  We are always looking for ways to improve our school, and we would greatly appreciate your input through a brief online survey. This will enable us to understand how you made your choice for Catholic school as well as opportunities we might have to improve our school offering.  While the survey is offered by the Archdiocese of Chicago, the responses will be specific to each school so that we can better understand parents' views in this community. To access the survey, please go to the following link:

For Spanish speakers:

The survey will be available online until Monday, February 6.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Reading Buddies

Just before Christmas, the fifth graders read The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. They used the story as a springboard to create their own writing adding the names and Christmas wishes of their year-long Kindergarten buddies. They then took on the role of illustrator and drew pictures for their young friends. Sharing the stories and pictures was a activity that will be remembered by all especially because the Kindergarten presented the fifth graders with Christmas bells the very next day surprising them as the came in from recess. If you haven't read the book, consider it. Christmas does live in our hearts all year long!

Virtus training. Click on the link below for the
