MEET FATHER PASCIAK

Father Marcel J. Pasciak, (Father Marc, as he likes to be called), grew up in the Back-of-the-Yards area of Chicago, attended St. Joseph School (South Hermitage), and later moved with his family to Brighton Park.  In Brighton Park, his family cared for his aging grandfather and uncle.  He is the son (and only child) of Edward and Dorothy Pasciak.  His mother Dorothy, died in 1997, and his father, age 92,  is living in Clearing neighborhood of Chicago.  Father Marc sees his father on a daily basis and together they enjoy dabbling in model railroading.

Father Marc attended High School at Quigley Seminary South (South Western Avenue), Niles College/Loyola University, and received his theological training at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein.  He was ordained by John Cardinal Cody on May 8, 1974.  In addition to his B.A. degree from Loyola (Literature) and his S.T.L. degree from Mundelein Seminary, he also has a M.A. degree from DePaul University (Literature) and has done graduate work at the University of Chicago.

Father Marc has served the archdiocese on the southwest side now for over 33 years.  His first assignment was as an Associate Pastor of St. Turibius Church (1974-79), then at St. Camillus  De Lellis (1979-88), and Most Holy Redeemer Church in Evergreen Park (1988-91).  From 1979 until its closing in 1990, Fr. Pasciak served on the faculty of Quigley Seminary South teaching literature and writing, and coaching wrestling and track.  From 1990-91 he taught at Brother Rice High School.  At that time he was appointed by Joseph Cardinal Bernardin to serve as pastor of St. Symphorosa Church in Chicago, near Midway Airport.  He comes to us after serving there for the last 16 years where he also served as Dean from 1997-2007.

Father Pasciak has been a columnist since July 1995 for the archdiocesan newspaper THE NEW WORLD writing the “Breaking Open the Word” weekly article.  He has received the following awards:  RAY MEYER AWARD (1998) for outstanding service in Christian coaching; the NOW ONLY DAWN LAY MINISTRY AWARD (1997) for his encouragement and support of lay ministry; the CATECHETICAL MINISTRIES AWARD (twice in 1998 and again in 2007), presented by the Office of Religious Education for excellence in the ministry of catechesis; and the CURE D’ ARS AWARD (2006) given by St. Joseph Seminary to priests dedicated to parish ministry.

Being an avid White Sox fan, Father Marc attends about thirty games a year; likes to read (everything from theology and biography to murder mysteries), attends theatre (Goodman, Steppenwolf, etc.), and enjoys movies and television.  His current favorite shows include - - Law and Order, CSI, House, The Closer, and Desperate Housewives (his guilty pleasure).  He also enjoys working out a number of times a week at the gym.

Father Marc is very pleased to be here at St. Patricia and has pledged to continue the great work his predecessors (Fathers Brody, Chapell and Mulcahy) have done in conjunction with all the fine people of this large and active parish / school.
